in the Atacama Desert
The Atacama Desert has many ways of getting to know it. That's why
we offer here a variety of activities, so you can make up your own
individual daily program best suited to your needs and desires, and
give yourself a unforgettable adventure treat. Wonderful hikes and
excursions on bicycle allow you to discover the mysteries of desert
and altiplano, with trips to tiny hamlets that date back to pre-Columbian
times. Salt lakes, volcanoes, oases, and hot springs further add to
the enchantment.

| Day 1 CALAMA
- SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA - MOON VALLEY TREKKING (4 hours) |
| Morning
arrival at the Calama's airport. Reception and transfer to San Pedro
de Atacama. Accommodations in the hotel. Later at 1 p.m. we leave
for a walking into the Valley of the Moon an extraordinary geological
formation cut deep into the Salt Mountains with all its magnificence
at sunset. Return to San Pedro for the night. Meals on your own. |
| Day 2 ATACAMA
SALT FLAT & HIGHLAND LAGOONS OVERLANDING (10 hours) |
| Early breakfast.
Departure at 7:30 a.m., heading southward toward the Atacama salt
pan to enjoy the sunrise over Lake Chaxas, a favorite nesting place
of the unique pink flamingo. Following a hearty breakfast, we continue
onwards to Socaire, whose inhabitants herd their animal and cultivate
their beautiful terraced fields at an altitude of more than 3,200
m. We keep going up and up to 4,000 m till we reach a point where
we can admire lakes Miscanti and Meñiques, together with their
interesting flora and fauna, in an unforgettable setting of high volcanoes.
Box lunch included. After a short hike to enjoy the lakes at their
best, we head back to San Pedro, stopping along the way to visit the
village of Toconao and the Jerez canyon. Overnight. Dinner on your

| Day 3 QUITOR
& CATARPE BIKING (4 hours) |
| Breakfast.
At 8 a.m. in the morning we leave by mountain bike northwest from
San Pedro to visit the Pukara de Quitor, a pre-Inca fortress. We continue
on through the San Pedro River valley to Devil's Canyon, which forms
an ancient trail leading to the Vilama River. From there, our route
winds through the Salt Mountains until it reaches the ruins of Catarpe.
Return to San Pedro. Afternoon at leisure to explore San Pedro village
and the archaeological Museum. Overnight. Meals on your own. (B) |
| Day 4 SAN
PEDRO- TATIO GEYSER - CASPANA - CALAMA (10 hours) |
| At 4 a.m.
we leave San Pedro towards Tatio Geysers. Walk around the geothermal
field with boiling mud and steam columns that make a geological stage
of enormous beauty. Breakfast in field and after enjoy the natural
hot spring. The tour continues through the Andean villages of Caspana,
Chiu-Chiu, Lasana fortress, Loa River petroghyphs and the Inca Coya
Lake before to reach in Calama airport. Box lunch included. (B, L) |

RIO
GRANDE - MACHUCA TREK (8 HOURS)
Morning departs northward from San Pedro towards the village of Machuca
(altitude 3,600 m). At that point we begin a hike of around five hours
over uneven terrain, through the Machuca salt marshes, and down a
shallow valley to Peñaliri. From there we follow a stream along
an ancient Indian route over terraced fields until we reach the town
of Rio Grande, home of farmers and shepherds who still retain their
ancestral customs. After a late picnic lunch, we drive back to San
Pedro, stopping along the way to visit the Yerbas Buenas petroglyphs.
